For the first time in 8 years, Eco Open Homes was back in the Lewes District !
In September, 20 energy efficient home owners opened their doors to some 650 visitors.
Homeowners in Barcombe, Lewes, Rodmell, Newhaven and Seaford showcased the work they had done to their houses to make them more energy efficient.
The event was a great hit, with many people asking questions about heat pumps, solar PV, insulation, energy efficient windows, electric cars as well as water saving systems and even a composting toilet. Many conversations were held and it was noticeable how visitors were focussed on specific renewable technology. One house offered one hour tours and found that visitors stayed for two hours!
Local eco-friendly businesses also opened their doors, including Kind Supply, which specialises in natural insulation materials, and Boutique Modern, a provider of modular, sustainable buildings.
Why do we need to do this?
To keep up with our carbon targets for Lewes District, we need to install at least 3,000 electric heat pumps per year and more to make our 42,000 homes in the District carbon efficient as well as fit solar PV panels to power our homes and cars from the sun. In addition, homeowners need to be supported to find the right ways of making their homes more energy efficient by fitting insulation and upgrading their windows to double glazing.
