OVESCO has successfully modernised the Solar PV System at Priory School in Lewes.
The system will provide free electricity for Priory School, whilst lowering its carbon footprint for many more years to come.
The project first launched in 2012 as the first solar PV system on a school in Sussex. OVESCO a local not-for-profit community energy group, installed solar panels on the roof of Priory School helping to generate clean energy for the last 13 years. Last Winter the system suffered technical difficulties.
Working with local installers Galaxy Technical Solutions, OVESCO fully examined the system and concluded that a new 35kWp system would most benefit the school. The work was carried out in Spring in time for the new panels to take advantage of longer, sunnier days.
Steep energy bills are continuing to affect thousands of schools, putting a strain on budgets and resources. Solar projects help the school save on energy costs, allowing more funds to be directed towards educational programmes and resources. All whilst reducing Priory Schools carbon footprint.
“The Priory School PV system is a great step to offset a portion of the school’s carbon emissions and reduce its energy costs.” Frank Donghi, OVESCO Technical Project Manager
‘Climate change and the environment are at the forefront of our students’ concerns, and Priory School is proud to be part of pioneering decarbonisation work as we continue to promote sustainability across the school, work to reduce our environmental footprint, and strive towards achieving net zero.’ Jon Curtis-Brignell, Priory School Headteacher
The system will save around 8 tonnes of carbon per year, equivalent to about 400 trees. It will generate free power for over 30 years and help to create a cleaner and healthier environment for future generations.
